Communication objectives

The direct mail media pack featured above was designed to boost advertising sales for a printed directory that was produced each year to promote the marine sector in Cornwall. The graphic designed piece would be used as a mailer sent to local Cornish businesses including members of Cornwall Marine Network.

Distribution

Sent by Royal Mail to more than 250 local businesses, PDF version attached to follow-up email. Used as a sales tool in meetings to discuss advertising.

Printed media

A5 4pp, 250gsm silk, matt lamination

Fonts

This was a B2B graphic designed piece and therefore a business font typically associated with business was used - Helvetica.

Colour Palette

Different tones associated with the sea off Cornwall as-well-as blues associated with the yacht’s spinnakers used in one of the images within the document.

Artwork Assets

All images sourced from Cornwall Marine Network’s extensive image bank. Images were cut out using Adobe Photoshop’s polygonal lasso tool. Labels sourced from online image library

Copy

Written with brevity so that there would be plenty of white space that flowed around all of the assets within the artwork. Advertising solutions segmented into menu-like display to allow readers to easily see the difference in pricing. Four offers featured prominently. Strong calls to action used throughout the artwork.

Software used

Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator

This mailer was designed by Tim Bowerbank whilst he was Marketing Manager at Cornwall Marine Network.
